Deadly bacteria NDM-1 spreads!

ndm1_bacteriaIt is only a matter of time before the potentially deadly infection extend to the rest of Europe. This is the first time that such bacteria appeared in Europe.

More than 50 patients in the UK are infected by a new kind of hospital infection, dangerous bacteria resistant to all penicillins antibiotics. It is only a matter of time when dangerous and potentially deadly infection will extend to the rest of Europe. This is the first time that such bacteria appeared in Europe. It produces an enzyme resistant to antibiotics. Scientists have named it NDM-1 (New Delhi-Metallo-1).
Doctors says the danger is that these bacteria and enzyme blend with Escherichijom coli bacteria. We all have it in our intestines, and out of the intestines can cause very serious infections, such as severe pneumonia or blood poisoning. They said that the new bacteria is resistant to antibiotics  from the penicillins group, but responds to several types of antibiotics. Only one patient in the UK found a form of resistance to antibiotics in all groups. What was not encouraging at the whole situation is that new infection can be linked with other enzymes that destroy those kinds of antibiotics, which for now still help.
This, fortunately, has not yet been recorded. Of 50 British patients, only 17 bacteria were brought directly from Asia, while the others were infected in their country.
- This infection will certainly expand further. Fortunately, not so fast as, for example, influenza. It spreads with dirty hands and objects, so it slows it.
Prevention is primarily hand hygiene. Unfortunately, in the UK among infected patients death may be expected. This deadly bacteria in Great Britain “took” mostly children and elderly but particularly risk is for those who already suffer from some serious diseases such as cancer.

NDM-1 cases dicovered:

United Kingdom: 37

Haryana, India: 26

Chennai, India: 44

Other sites in India and Pakistan: 73

This deadly bacteria is not a new thing. Many patient are infected by this in the hospitals in India and die of multiple organ failure. The doctors simply put the blame unresponsiveness to any antibiotic and forget. But the cases are too many to be ignored. In any given instance 10-15 people die in a single hospital with similar symptoms, but the cause of the death is being reported as “natural” death. Often no disinfection protocol is followed and new patient are treated in the same infected environment. My father-in-law died in 2004 in a reputed hospital in India. He too was infected with this superbug. But these kind of thing are never reported and no records are maintained.
